Introducing the “S” crown, a SARB059 crown alternative !

While the SARB059 crown supply wither and demand continue to increase due to the interest to Supercharged their SKX007 with the NH35/NH36 movement.

Supercharge your SKX007 with a NH35/36

Many have asked me to supply them with an aftermarket crown and a suitable pre-cut length NH35/NH36 stem as a package.
OK guys, after many consideration and investment. I have decided to go ahead and custom made my own “S” crown for the SKX007 Supercharge upgrade.

They are custom made as close to the SARB059 crown as possible but with some improvement.

Lets have a look at the new “S” crown and its features and improvement :

(due to dimensional tolerance between SKX batches of watches over the years, wear and tear reasons or stem length over trim <by me> , some ‘S’ Crown’s stem was found to be a tad short in length. As many owners are oversea, therefore to be safe and avoid inconveniences. With immediate effect, the NH36 stem will not be installed on the crown. Kindly install it at your end, small amount of fine length trimming/sanding may be adjusted accordingly afterthat. PLEASE NOTE. Thank you for your understanding.)

The second batch of “S” crown is on its way and will have a slight redesign to arrest the above mentioned tolerance issue. I have receive the new ‘S’ crown sample and is please to inform that it worked with ALL SKX cases from those in the early 90 to current.

They are made with “Double gasket” for added water resist application !

*The “S” Crown will feel firm and tight when install. It remove the ‘wobbly’ feels associated with the original crown.

The Difference between Single and Double Mechanical Gasket

WHAT IS A SINGLE MECHANICAL GASKET SEAL?

A single mechanical gasket seal consists of a round O-ring that are pressed together and slide/rotating against the crown and crown tube. Between these two surfaces is the gasket seal. This gasket seal prevents fluid and dust from entering the case. Silicon grease is usually applied to lubricate and create a barrier fluid.

Mechanical gasket seals tend to leak a very small amount of vapor from the high pressure side to the low pressure side situation, which crosses the seal faces as a liquid and dust tries to enter the gap. This single gasket must function to seal the surfaces, prevent fluid and dust contamination. It’s common practice to use a single mechanical seal product due ease, cost, design and economic reason.

WHAT IS A DOUBLE MECHANICAL SEAL?

A double mechanical gasket seal consists of two seals arranged in a series. The inboard, or “primary seal” keeps the moisture and dust contained within the first gaping. The outboard, or “secondary seal” prevents any further leak or contamination into the case.

• Two rotating gasket seal rings are arranged facing away from each other. A silicon grease is applied on the gasket as lubricating film and generate the barrier fluid. This arrangement/method is commonly found in the chemical industry. In case of leakage or dust penetration, the barrier liquid contains the contamination and protects against further damages. High pressure side to the low pressure side vapor leakage is also kept on check due to its double barrier arrangement.

Pleased to inform that the Version2 ‘S’ Crown delivery has started. The ‘S’ Crown largely remains unchange, 2 small changes has been made to arrest the above mention tolerance issue.

a) stem compression spring length tolerance has been increase from 1.5mm to 1.8mm. This takes up the length difference in the various lots of Seiko crown tubes and cases.

*a few SKX was sacrificed in the resolution process….. hehe.

b) slight down size in the double mechanical gasket. Feedback that double gasket is a bit on the tight side of things {although some do like it tight…}.
The gasket size [outer diameter] has been reduce just a little bit so that its ‘loosen’ the tightness without compromising the water resistance.
