SKX027 Turbocharged mod with 6R15

Here is another mod for Mr Justin. He has send in the rare SKX027 for Turbocharging.

The SKX027 is a white dial, gold indice, gold hands and with gold font bezel insert. The black bezel with gold font markings contrasts quite nicely with the white dial and gold accents on the markers, hands, gold Seiko logo and the gold day/date border frame. There isn’t any chapter ring in the SKX027. These watches are mid size submariner homage case, like their elder brother the SKX031. The crown is located at 3 o’clock and its size is well received by many in my opinion given the 37mm case size.

Like the SKX023 (Black), SKX025 (Pepsi) , these SKX027 (White) were produced from 1996 to 1999, They used to be cheap and easily available but now are getting harder and harder to find.

Case size: 37mm (excluding crown)
Thickness: 12mm
Lug Width: 20mm

Movement: 7S26
Crown: Screw-down crown

Anyway, Mr Justin has send in the below parts for the Turbocharging mod :

-NOS Seiko SKX027
-6R15 movement
-aftermarket crown (I will be using my NH36 precut stem)
-Seiko hands set
-black date wheel
-Samurai SRPB99 Padi dial

Here are some pix of the SKX027 ……… before it goes to an “operation”.

The aftermarket crown vs Seiko original crown stem (non detachable) .

Swapping the black DATE wheel in the 6R15 movement.

Opps ! Forgotten to snap some pix of the hands installation process…… sorry.

Here is the swap-in Turbocharged 6R15 movement, dial and hands into the SKX027.

Apply new silicon grease to the crown and back case gasket.

Regulate the 6R15 movement.

 

Turbocharging completed !
