New addition : The NEW Maranez Layan with stone dial !

The NEW Maranez Layan with stone dial ! is launch today 26 Sept 2014. Unlike the earlier Layan, its available with various stone dial ! Interesting ! Couldnt resist the temptation, I bought the Malachita dial Layan ! (Jade stone looking !)! Now awaiting for the delivery. Will post more photos and review once i receive it.

I have originally allocated funds to do a review on the Gruppo Gamma Mark II A-41 Ascent (another great PAM Homage), looks like i will have to do 2 review now ! Christmas seems to come early this year ! Dead broke !

*Got in contact with Gruppo Gamma for the Mark II A-41 Ascent. Looks like i may have 2 in-coming. Gruppo Gamma has a point located in Singapore. If all is OK, i may have a A-41 much faster for the review than the Layan !

—————————————————————————————-

Sorry for the delays in the review. I was pretty caught up with work and could’nt find time to write more. Plus, the 2 Gruppo Gamma watches kept me busy in the last few weeks too ! Swapping straps on these GG is a breeze with GG fat springbar and i have been playing with several strap combination without any scratches on the lug too ! (thats what keep me busy too !!).

Anyway, I have received the Layan Malachite stone dial watch. It certainly looks interesting.
There is already many review on the Layan n the net. I’ll just put in some of my personal comment on mine Maranez Layan Malachite stone dial watch.

As usual, the Maranez Layan Malachite stone dial watch comes in a black round plastic container ; like the Bangla. It comes with 3 straps – leather, rubber and nato. All with matching brass backle (thanks goodness !)

Interestingly my Layan’s stone dial pattern looks exactly like the one Maranez posted on their website. Maybe they send me the exact watch !

The crown is signed “M”. Its triplock (3 seal), good for water resist. ….. but its slightly thick, so it may dig onto the wrist for some people.

I also noticed the crown’s is a brass cover force-fitted onto another stainless steel crown. Its a clever design, as some will know that brass threaded screw crown dont last !

I prefer the Layan on leather strap. As usual, i added my own strap tube for added safety against the screw lug bar from being squeezed out by the leather strap.
*a springbar will prevent this situation from happening !

You can buy the strap tubes at $10 a pair from me here :  https://seikoparts.wordpress.com/2014/08/24/for-sale-leather-rubber-silicon-strap-tubes/

*For those who has a habit of frequent strap change and want quick change change option. Suggest to install one of my custom springbar. It makes changing strap a breeze and quick !

They are $12 a pair. (https://seikoparts.wordpress.com/2014/09/08/for-sale-custom-24mm-springbar-suitable-for-panerai-marina-militare-maranez-gruppo-gamma-homage-etc/)

Layan Lume New

Any area for improvement ?

First of all, I would prefers the Cali dial marker to be stretched outwards a little more towards the bezel. It will give a bigger dial impression. The current print makes the dial quite small when compared with other similar homage watches.

Secondly, I saw on a 20X scope that a “cap” was used on the NH35 second hands pinion and you can actually see it moving ! Although its not visible to the naked eye and acceptable to most. But i think it can be done better with the “cap” build-into the minute hands.  OK maybe i am just fussy too.

Maranez has creatively added a stone dial on the Layan series and created a niche product. Smart ! So whats next ? Carbon Fiber ? Mickey Mouse ? Hehe….
For its quality, speed of delivery and package. I would consider the Layan as a good value for $$ watch !

Hope you guys like it !

  1. Hi, in your blog post you mentioned that you wrote to Gruppo Gamma (GG) a couple of time but got no response. Can you contact us again? We always reply all emails if we actually get to receive them. The only emails that we did not get to reply, and it has happened a couple of time in the last one year, are those that for some reason ended up in our spam folders.

I think we have to clarify this as it affects our company’s reputation. Thanks.

  2. Hi Naoki, surprise to hear from you here.
Thanks for the visit. I’m writing and forwarding you my earlier email to GG.
